Dr. Gunnar Lovhoiden, PhD.
Director of Advanced Technology
Dr. Gunnar Lovhoiden, one of the key collaborators on the VeinViewer™ Imaging System, earned both his Masters of Science and his Ph.D in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Tennessee. His Ph.D project included the design and construction of a proof-of-principle VeinViewer™ prototype which demonstrated the feasibility of projecting vein patterns back onto the skin with the highest degree of accuracy. Additionally, he conducted a clinical pilot study that demonstrated the significant clinical utility of the VeinViewer™ device.

Dr. Lovhoiden's Masters project included the design and construction of a chest phantom for intravenous coronary angiography studies using K-emission x-rays. When available x-ray sources proved insufficient to generate the desired K-emission x-rays, Dr. Lovhoiden spent more than a year at Brookhaven National Laboratory designing and building an original x-ray generator from spare parts made available to him.

Prior to joining Luminetx, Dr. Lovhoiden spent 6 years teaching Engineering and Engineering Technology courses ranging from Basic Electronics and Microprocessors to Engineering Mechanics and Engineering Economy.

Dr. Lovhoiden has co-authored 16 papers ranging from vein imaging to bone densitometry.
